Mrs. Raoul was born in Charleston, S.C., the eldest daughter of Rear Adm. William S. and Louisa McCord Stoney Popham. Her early education was in the Far East. She was a graduate of Harpeth Hall and Scripps College of California. She served in the American Red Cross during World War II. After the war she married William Gaston Raoul of Lookout Mountain, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Raoul was active in Chattanooga, having served as the former president of the associate board of the Hunter Museum of Arts, and was past president of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera Guild. She was also former president of the Junior League of Chattanooga; a member of League of Women Voters, Colonial Dames, and the Garden Club of Lookout Mountain. For years she was a communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal and a choir member, and later of Thankful Memorial Church in St. Elmo. She was an ardent gardener and an inspired tennis player.
Survivors include a son, Gaston C. Raoul III, Lookout Mountain; daughter, Louisa R. Moore, Wando Farms; sister, Harriet P. Rigney, Charleston; three grandchildren, William G. Raoul II, Samuel G. Moore and William R. Moore.
She was buried today at Saint James Episcopal Cemetery in Goose Creek. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at noon at the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal, Lookout Mountain. Arrangements are by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Funeral Chapel, Charleston, S.C.
