56 year old Joseph Abner (JoAb) St. John, oldest child of William Thomas and Sarah Whitfield St. John died unexpectedly at his home in Morrison Sunday morning on April 11. Mr. St. John had been home for a week with pneumonia but was improving. Death was attributed to a heart attack. A native of Cannon County, he was born in 1868. He operated a mill and farmed in Cannon County. He moved to this area in 1907. Mr. St. John was a member of the Church of Christ and was very instrumental in starting the congregation at Pleasant Knoll and Cumberland Academy. Mr. St. John was married to the former Alcie Jane Woods of Cannon County who survives. Besides his widow and parents he is survived by five sons and six daughters; Delter St. John, Tom St. John, Robert St. John, Charles St. John, and Goodloe St. John all of Morrison. Mrs. John (Mead) Prater, Mrs. Jim (Margaret) Prater, Miss Theonia Ruth St. John, Miss Maymie St. John all of Morrison. Mrs. H.B. (Salley) Ramsey of Coffee County, Mrs. Tom (Jodie) Brown of Beech Grove and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday April 13, at 2 p.m. in the Viola Church of Christ building with Jimmy Stubblefield officiating. Burial was in the Viola Graveyard. Jacobs and Jarrel Funeral Home of Morrison assisted by John High from McMinnville were the funeral directors.
NOTE:In 1936 his body was removed to the Morrison Cemetery at the request of his widow.

daughter of Nathan L. Woods ( 1839-1903)
and Margaret Phillips Woods (1839- 1910)
moved to Coffee County in 1907
from the Iconium community in Cannon County. They had been owner and operators of a general store and grist mill located on Bull Pen Creek between Iconium and the Red Hill Communities. The store and mill were both destroyed by the flood of 1902.
They first settled in the Summitville area with their children. After a short time there they moved to the Kiker place in the Fountain Grove Community. From there they moved to Frogtown . Joab's occupation was farming. They then relocated to the Pleasant Knoll Community, and there remained the rest of their life.

Joab, along with his son Delter, was very instrumental in starting the congregation of the Church of Christ at Pleasant Knoll in 1913.
The children of Joab and Alcie were: Colonel (10/27/1887-10/29/1888).
Died as an infant

Their second child, Delter (9/9/1889-1/13/1967)
married Eliza Prater (7/4/1893--7/7/1981).
They had three children : Hubert (died age 5 months), Billy and Charles D.

Their third child Media, (12/5/1891-7/18/1962)
married John Prater (8/26/1891-8/30/1975).
They had five children: Eustace, Willie Jeanette, Theodore, Johnnie Ruth and Christine.

Their fourth child, Margaret
(4/27/1894- 10/12/1936)
married James Indiamon "Jim" Prater (10/12/1884-6/27/1969).
They had four children: Jimmie Lee, Grady, Brownie, and Jo Ellen.

Their fifth child, William Thomas"Tom" (11/3/1896-1/4/1944)
married Lena Gentry 8/23/1908- 11/21/1976) Their daughter was Jestene.

Their sixth child was Jodie ( 8/24/1899- 6/4/1976)
married Tom Brown (7/28/1899--2/4/1985).
They had four children: Clyde, Lois, Maymie Jo and Garland.

The seventh child, Sally. ( 12/26/1901-3/3/1986)
married H.B. Ramsey (5/20/1902--6/6/1991.
They had five daughters: Virginia, Leona, Kathryn, Jane and Peggy.

Their eighth child was Robert Hall St. John
1/27/1904-10/2/1997) married Mamie Bonner ( 4/23/1904--1/26/1948). They had three children: Bobby, Barbara Ann and Howard.
Robert married A second time to Aileen Hall (5/23/1914-1/15/1991) and they had one child, Charlotte.

The ninth child, Maymie, (4/22/1906-5/13/1978)
married to Tony Moreno on November 23, 1931
and Jack Webb on June 3, 1950 She had no children by either marriage.

Their Tenth child was Theonia Ruth
(10/8/1909-3/1/1988) married Roy Newby
( 2/9/1906--2/5/1972.
They had two sons: Billy Roy and Jimmy.

Their eleventh child was Charles Clark St. John, (9/11/1911-6/16/1967)
he married Lila Jarrell (11/23/1912-11/23/1983).
They had two children: Sue and Tommy.

The last child of Joab and Alcie was
Price Goodloe ( 9/28/1915-12/11/1998).
He married Pearl Elrod (4/1/1919-_12/18/2018__________)
They had two daughters: Sandra and Brenda.

The flood in Cannon County that washed JoAb St.John's Mill away was on March 28, 1902.

The mill was located on Bull Pen Creek between Red Hill and Sheboygan in Cannon County.

Also, the late spring snow was on April 25th, 1910. An 8 inch snow
