She graduated from Odessa High School in 1934. After attending Kinman Business University in Spokane, she worked for the Odessa Trading Company. She married William F. Zagelow on Dec 19, 1937, and the couple farmed in the area until their retirement. Following her husband’s death in 2000, Vera moved to Walla Walla. When she lived in Odessa, Vera was an active member of the community. She was involved in her church, the English Congregational Church, which later merged into the Heritage Church. She headed the Sunday School programs when her children were young and in later years was devoted ‘Care Bear’ who wrote notes of concern and friendship to members and their families. She was a member of the Heritage Church, Odessa Grange and was Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star and Mother Advisor of the Order of Rainbow for Girls. She was a longstanding member of bridge clubs and a ready substitute for others. Having developed an interest in sports in high school, she was a dedicated fan when her sons participated in school sports and retained a keen interest in local and regional teams. Also following their retirement from farming they spent their winters in CA and AZ and enjoyed foreign travels with the Shrine/Masonic sponsored tours. Survived by 3 children, 1 daughter-in-law, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; 1 sister, numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, William F K Zagelow, 1 son William B. Zagelow, and 5 sisters and 1 Interment Odessa Cemetery. ref: Odessa Record Dec 2007 [excerpt]
