He was born in Mayfield, Utah on November 27, 1899 to George A.
Whitlock and Mary Ann Jensen Whitlock. He was the last survivor of 13 children. He married Idona Goff on October 26, 1926. Their marriage was solemnized Sept. 17, 1947, in the Salt Lake Temple. She died in 1980 and he then married Thelma Etaugh in 1987. She passed away later. He worked for Kennecott for 43 years as a locomotive engineer. He was very active in the LDS Church holding many different positions. Jake excelled as a auto mechanic, plumber, enjoyed his garden, dancing, and at the age of 63 he started bowling. He bowled a 592 series on his 95th birthday. He continued to bowl until after his 100th birthday.
Jake is survived by two daughters, Vondell (Dan) Slaughter of Murray, UT; and Nancy (John) Sheriff of Sandy, UT; eight grandchildren: RuLean (Ken), Dannie (Dave), Blake (Chantell), Donell (Martha), Johnette, Chad, Laine, Mont and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Cory Slaughter; and great-granddaughter Toni King.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, Jan. 25, 2002 at 2 p.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 E. 10600 S., Sandy, where friends may call Thurs. 6-8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to the service.
Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens.
