He served in the United States Army from 1964 - 1967 having been station in Germany. Mr. Adkins was employed at Weinbrenner Shoe Company factory for many years as a machine operator. He also worked at Vulcan Corporation as boiler operator of their heating plant and lathe operator.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and the Sparks-Doernenberg American Legion Post #3 in Antigo.
He is survived by his wife and her sister and brothers: Judy Wilton, Antigo, Ed (Darlene) Wurtinger, Antigo, Gary Wurtinger, Bryant, Paul (Beverly) Wurtinger, Antigo and Ray (Gloria) Wurtinger, Antigo, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Wilburn, James, Edward and Roy and several in infancy, three sisters Shirley Farrand, Jannett Adkins and Phoebe Whitt and several in infancy.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. David Karolus officiating. Burial will take place in Antigo Bohemiam National Cemetery where the Antigo Veterans will conduct military rites. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
