Emma Layman Litsey, the daughter of Stephen Layman and Susan Kimble of Grayson County, Kentucky, was born in 1862. She was the second wife of James Henry Litsey, who was the 11th of the 12 children of Henry L. Litsey and Catherine Day of Grayson County, Kentucky. James and Emma were married on May 30, 1903. At that time Emma became the stepmother of his 11 children by his first wife, Amanda E. Spurrier, the daughter of Green Spurrier and Sarah Davis. Emma and James were the parents of Teddy R. Litsey, who was born on July 5, 1905.

James Henry Litsey died at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 9 days on March 22, 1926. He was buried the Duff Churchyard Cemetery in Duff, Grayson County, Kentucky with his first wife Amanda, who preceded him in death on March 3, 1901. Emma Layman Litsey died in 1941. She was buried in the Layman Memorial Gardens in Millwood, Grayson County, Kentucky where her son Teddy was buried after his death on September 18, 1968.
