Lafayette Layman, the son of Stephen Layman and Susan Kimble, was born October 20, 1866 in Grayson County, Kentucky. His paternal grandparents were Michael Layman and Sarah Storm. His maternal grandparents were William Allen Kimble and Hannah Ellis Haynes. He was a Cumberland Presbyterian Minister. He was married twice. His first wife was Lenna Lee Tate. She was born in 1870 and died in June of 1920. Lafayette then married Eva Cowen. He was a resident of Warren County, Kentucky at the time of his death there on September 7, 1955. He was buried in the Layman Memorial Gardens near Millwwood, Grayson Couty, Kentucky with his first wife Lenna Lee Tate Lyman. The inscriptions on their individual stones read "Father" and "Mother".
