Annie Laurie Fleming, 88, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Saturday morning, September 25, 2021 at Adams Woodcrest.

Annie was born October 10, 1932 to the late Alva Burger and the late Bertha (Welty) Burger.

She was united in marriage to Wilmer Grote on December 10, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1962.

Annie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Decatur, Indiana, where she served in Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Merry Matron Home Extension Club since 1954.

Annie was employed for many years as a waitress, serving in several restaurants including Holthouse Drug, Richard's and Country Farms Restaurant. She also worked at Coast to Coast hardware store and volunteered at the Adams Memorial Hospital, logging more than 2,000 service hours.

In addition to her service through work and volunteering, Annie enjoyed several hobbies, including sewing, quilting, and fishing.

Annie is lovingly survived by her five children, Darlene (Bill) Hitchcock of Decatur, Indiana; Dennis (Mury) Grote of Decatur, Indiana; Dean (Sue) Grote of Bluffton, Indiana; Cindy (Terry) Grubaugh of Decatur, Indiana; and David (Jeanne) Thieme of Decatur, Indiana; as well as by her 21 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by eight brothers, Frank, Wayne, Harold, Brice, John, Freddy, Theodore and Robert Burger, and her eight sisters, Pearl Worthman, Francile Harvey, Ruth Suman, Margarete Carpenter, Norma Burger, Marry Shifferly, Rosa Fox and Lucrecia Minnich.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Decatur, Indiana with Pastor David Koeneman officiating. Interment will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Decatur.

Friends and family will be received from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Preferred memorials are to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
