Wanda Embry, 92, of Selah, Wash., passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at her residence at Hartman House. Wanda was born on March 2, 1915, at home, daughter of Ted and Aubyn Cook Barker of Baca County, Colo. She grew up on her parent's cattle ranch in Southeast Colorado and was an accomplished horsewoman. She married Oren D. Embry on Aug. 8, 1933 and they lived in Colorado, Idaho, Nebraska, Oklahoma and California before making Boise, Idaho their home in 1948. In 1989 they moved to Yakima, Wash. to be near their daughter, Sharon. Wanda moved back to Boise in 1995 where her other daughter, Avis lived and only recently moved back to Washington. Wanda was a homemaker and worked for many years for Chase's Health Food Store. She and Oren raised Appaloosa horses for show and were members of the ION Appaloosa Club. She was a member of the Eastern Stars Organization and a longtime and faithful member of the First Baptist Church and very involved with the American Baptist Women. Wanda will be remembered for her winsome ways, her quick wit and as a very hard working person. She is survived by her three children; Rae Sharon Louk (Wayne) of Yakima, Wash., Lou Avis Embry of Boise and Oren Elwood Embry (Joan) of Old Hickory, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Tim Louk (Charmaine), Aubyn Jo Dean (Steve), Karla Melchiori (Tim), Riki Campbell (Frank), Kristen Michelle Reilly (Kevin), and Stephanie Lorraine Hastings (Andrew); 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ted Gordon Barker (Alma); and numerous nieces and nephews. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Oren, her parents, Ted and Aubyn Barker, and two infant brothers, Clive and lver Barker. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007 at the First Baptist Church, Boise, with Pastor Bruce Young officiating. Private family burial will be at Dry Creek Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel of Boise, ID and Langevin Mussetter Funeral Home, Yakima, Wash.
