A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Lewisburg, Union County, October 11, 1862, purportedly mustered into federal service in Harrisburg that same day as a private with Co. K, 51st Pennsylvania Infantry, and discharged by surgeon's certificate January 12, 1865. He is in the company register as "Daniel," although his compiled military service records have it right.
By 1870, he was a farmer living with his family in Rye Township, Perry County, and died at his home in Marysville from "general debility with heart failure (organic)."
Perry County Times, August 29, 1912
