James Garfield Skaggs died today in a local hospital. A native of Litchfield, Ky., he was 83. He was reared in Salem, Ark., and came to California in 1938, residing in Kings County the past 30 years. Surviving are his widow, Mabel, of Armona; nine sons, Talmadge Skaggs of Lemoore, Mack Skaggs of McKinleyville, Audridge Skaggs of Areata, Paul Skaggs of Scotia, Claude Skaggs of Riverside, Bill Skaggs of Hanford, Frank Skaggs of Fremont, Randall Skaggs of Hanford and Jeff Skaggs of Avenal; six daughters, Mrs. Velva Thompson of Doniphan, Mo., Mrs. Ora Vangas of Crescent City, Mrs. Sarah Crane of Taft, Mrs. Ella Faye Clark of Fresno, Mrs. Jaunita Keeling of Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Geraldine Black of Drayton Plains, Mich.; three brothers, Jessie Skaggs of West Plains, Mo., Henry Skaggs, both of Lanton, Mo., and 42 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services will be held in Peoples Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. Friday, with interment to follow in Grangeville cemetery.
