"Mary E. Uplinger, 87, formerly of Veedersburg and a resident of Covington Manor Nursing Home, died at 8 p.m. July 4, 1996. She was born July 8, 1908 near Wallace, the daughter of Ivan and Anna Dot Myers Allen. She married Byron E. Uplinger Oct. 18, 1930.

She had been a resident of Fountain County all of her life. She was a housewife and formerly owned the Wallace General Store. She was a member of the Phanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church at Wallace and a member of Ladies Aid.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Hoagland of Veedersburg; two brothers, Wilbur Allen of Lafayette and Paul Allen of Wallace; two sisters, Margaret Dibert of Fort Wayne and Anna Stephenson of Lafayette; three grandchildren, L.W. (Bud) Hoagland, Carl W. Hoagland and Jerry Hoagland; six great-grandchildren; and a greatgreat-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Mildred Gray.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7 in the Dickerson Funeral Home at Veedersburg with the Rev. Karl Korbel officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Hillsboro." – Fountain County Neighbor, July 9, 1996
