PORTLAND, OR - Gwendolyn Mary Neely passed away in Portland, Oregon on November 10, 2007. She was born on May 30, 1912 in Yakima, Washington to Irvine and Harriet Longbottom. Gwen attended Yakima High School and Yakima Business College, and then worked before marriage at Guaranty Trust. She lived her entire life in Yakima, including nine years at Englewood Heights, until moving to Lake Oswego last year. She married Donald R. Neely in 1934 and was a homemaker while the family business was fruit orchards. Gwen was a charter member of the Yakima Women's Century Club for fifty years and was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Yakima as were her parents. In later years she enjoyed golfing with her friends, playing bridge with her longtime bridge club, shopping, gardening, reading and watching the Mariners. Her greatest joy and satisfaction in life was her love for her dear grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of Gwen's fondest experiences was a wonderful trip with her daughter and granddaughter to England, where she renewed her English heritage.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald in 2006, son Robert Neely in 1995 and son-in-law R. Joseph Okoneski in 2000. She is survived by her daughter Carole Gross and husband Dr. George Gross of Lake Oswego, brother Dick Lane and Marilyn of Yakima, three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Christ Episcopal Church in Lake Oswego at noon, Saturday, November 17, 2007. Interment will be in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
