BLUEFIELD Avis Elizabeth Petty, 88, of Route 3, Box 270, (Bramwell), Bluefleld, WV
died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at a Bluefield hospital. Born Aug. 3, 1911, at Goodwill, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Lucinda Taylor Bailey. She was a resident of Mercer County for all of her life and lived in Bramwell for 63 years. She was an active member of the Elizabeth Bowen Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, Bramwell.
She was retired from the Mercer County Board of Education where she served as head cook at the Bramwell High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Haskel Petty; six brothers; and one sister of the Bailey family. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include four sons, Arnold E. Petty and wife Molly of Port Republic, Md., JohnW. Petty and wife Retha of Daytona Beach, Ha., William A. Petty and wife Reva and Kenneth L. Petty and wife Carole, all of Amissville, Va.; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cravens Shires Funeral Home, Bluewell, with Rev. Lee Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elizabeth Bowen Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, Bramwell, WV.
