Kenneth Lee Petty, 79, of Amissville, Virginia, passed away quietly at home surrounded by his family on October 28, 2016. For the last six years, he had bravely fought cancer. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia , on January 15, 1937, he was a son of William H. and Avis Petty. Mr. Petty graduated from Bramwell High School, Bramwell, West Virginia.

He loved his country and proudly joined the United States Navy serving from 1954 - 1957 during the Korean War aboard the USS Midway, the USS Bennington, and the USS Intrepid. Following his service in the U.S. Navy, he attended West Virginia University.

After a career with the Department of the Interior, Geological Survey, he retired to his beloved Rappahannock County where he built a home from the land. While enjoying his retirement, he was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, Washington Nationals, and WVU Mountaineers. He was also an amateur wildlife photographer.

He was devoted to his family and leaves his wife of 38 years, Carole Kelly Petty; a son, Altie, two brothers, Arnold (Mollie) Petty, William (Reva) Petty; sister-in-law, Retha Petty and extended family; Jeane (late Herbert) Schad, Robert (Charlotte) Kelly Jr., James B. (Jeanne) Kelly, Michael D. (Penny) Kelly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John. A Memorial Service was held at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton, Virginia, on Saturday, November 12, at 2:00 p.m.
