Son of Albert & Hedwig (Schacher) Gerber.
He graduated from Duncan High School. On September 24, 1942, Albert enlisted in the US Army. He served in the 780th Amphibian Tank Battalion. Albert was awarded the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on January 7, 1946. Albert returned to the Duncan area where he engaged in farming.

Albert was a member of the Platte County Historical Society, VFW, American Legion, and the Platte County Agricultural Society. He was a lifetime member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ where he served on the Church Council, was a member of the Men's Brotherhood, and served as head usher for 26 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, farming, and his pets.
