From The Peerage: Charles Frederick Abney-Hastings, 1st Baron Donington was born on 17 June 1822. He was the son of Thomas Joseph Clifton and Hetty Treves. He married Edith Maud Rawdon-Hastings, 10th Countess of Loudoun, daughter of George Augustus Francis Rawdon-Hastings, 2nd Marquess of Hastings and Barbara Yelverton, Baroness Grey (of Ruthin), on 30 April 1853. He died on 24 July 1895 at age 73.
He was given the name of Charles Frederick Clifton at birth. He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England. He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1845 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) He graduated from Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1848 with a Master of Arts (M.A.). On 1859 Charles Frederick Abney-Hastings, 1st Baron Donington title's name changed to Charles Frederick Abney-Hastings by Act of Parliament. He was created 1st Baron Donington, of Donington Park, co. Leicester [U.K.] on 4 May 1880.
