A list of Members of the Congregation of St. Bernard in 1881 said Michael was born on 8 Jun 1862 and celebrated his first communion on 15 May 1876. His headstone said he was born in 1863. Michael died of pneumonia.

Obituary - Died, last Sunday morning at his home six miles northwest of Humphrey, Micheal [sic] Kaus, aged 47 years. Mr. Kaus had been ill only a short time and his death came quite suddenly. Micheal Kaus was born in Plymouth, Wisconsin, in 1863, and when 17 years old he with his parents came to Platte county Nebraska and settled on a farm near St. Bernard. In the year of 1888 he was united in marriage to Miss Barbara Buettner, of the St. Bernard neighborhood, to which union nine children were born. He leaves a wife and eight children to mourn his untimely death. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the St. Bernard church and interment was made in the St. Bernard Cemetery.
