Isaac Emery Timmons was the second of five children born to Daniel B. Gaines Timmons and Mary C. Chandler. Emery married in 1882 to Sarah Ellen Story, and the couple relocated to northeast Texas, where they had three children: Golden, Effie, and Amy. About 1895 Emery moved his family to Peggs in the Cherokee Nation to be near relatives; he and Sarah divorced in 1896. In 1900, Emery married Nancy Elizabeth Martin, and the couple had two children, Virginia G. and Thomas J. Following their divorce, Emery moved to Pawhuska, Oklahoma, to be near his children Golden and Effie. Circa 1917 Emery relocated to Pope County, Arkansas, where he married Margaret Dunlap. The couple moved to Pawhuska in the early 1920s, but later divorced. Emery was a farmer for most of his life, though he occasionally worked as a mason.
