Born in Benton (now Calhoun) County, Alabama about 1841, Mary was the fourth of nine children born to Emry and Nancy Chandler. Mary's family moved to Hempstead County, Arkansas about 1856, where she married Daniel B. G. Timmons, a widower with two children, on October 23, 1856. They had five children: James Robert, Isaac Emry, Nancy Jane, William T., and Rosa Elizabeth. Records indicate that she died between July 13, 1870 and July 19, 1871, at which time the family resided on a 1-acre parcel in present-day Mineral Springs (Mine Creek Township, then in Hempstead County).
