GALENA, Kan. - Melvin Ray McKinzie, 64, 1220 Harvard St. died at 7:12 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home.

Mr. McKinzie was born Feb. 13, 1930 at Hockerville, Okla. He lived most of his life in Galena.

He began working for King Press Corp., Joplin, in 1964. He retire from the company as a supervisor in 1992.

He served with the Air Force in Japan and the Philippines from September 1946 to September 1949. He was a member of the Galena Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

He married Colleen Johnston on Aug. 16, 1949, at Eureka Springs, Ark. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Ben McKinzie and Kevin McKinzie, both of Galena; two daughters, Georgia Ketterman, Wellington, and Anna McKinzie, Galena; a brother, Bill McKinzie, Seneca, Neb.; two sisters, Bernice Hussong and Bonnie Conrad, both of Galena; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena. The Rev. Lester Nutting will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Marvin Kaehler, Norman Parks, Don Noe, Harold Mason, Bill Holden and Bill Hill.

Members of the Northeast Oklahoma Veterans' Funeral Detail will conduct graveside military rites.

The family will be at the home, 1220 Harvard St.
