Alfred enjoyed fishing on the Missouri River, hunting pheasant and grouse, golfing, gardening and cooking, with his own recipe for making homemade bread.

Tennis with his nieces, usually after supper, on the homemade court he had made, was a fond memory for Alfred.

The highlight of Alfred's life was his extended family that he loved and cherished, considering them his children.
