The older Schierholz brothers came over earlier and got established homes.
The came over on sailing boats, in the steerage
That is as far of the boat where they kept the cattle.
It took three weeks to get from Germany to America.
They landed in Plymouth Rock and from there they found their way to Boone, Iowa.
That was as far as the railroad went in those days.

March 25, 1926
Funeral for the late Hans Schierholz were held on Monday afternoon, March 22 from the late residence. With the pastor of the Methodist church in charge of the services.
The pall bearers were:

Mr. Schierholz was born August 23, 1839 in Norderstaple, Schleswig-Holsten, Germany.
He died at his home in Ogden, Iowa, March 19, 1926 at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 23 days.
He grew up to manhood in the place of his birth and was there also married to Miss Wiebke Kruse on March 12, 1865.
To this union were born nine children. Of whom three daughters and two sons died in infancy.
Three daughters and one son are living.
In June 1868 they came to America locating first in Clinton County, Iowa and in September of the same year moved to Ogden, Iowa.
In the spring of 1869 they moved to a farm northwest of Ogden where they lived until 1901 when they moved to Ogden, where they lived most of the time until his death.
They are among those who laid the foundation of Boone County wealth and progress.
They spent many days preserving and establishing their home they loved so much.
The surviving children are:
Mrs. Catherine Lorenzen of Grand Junction, Iowa
Mrs. Maggie Knuth of Lakota, Iowa
Miss Emma of Ogden
Hans Fredrick of Stratford, Iowa.
Four surviving brothers are:
Peter of Boone, Iowa
John of Ogden
Jacob of Northland
Claus of Ogden
He also leaves ten grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
His wife preceded him in death on November 20, 1903
Two sisters preceded him in death.
Mrs. Schierholz was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany and remained true to his faith.
He was thrifty and industrious and did much to develop Boone County, during the 55 years which he las lived.
