Mr. Cleveland Austin, 87, died at the Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital Sunday, July 30, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were conducted at Winona Funeral Home Chapel August l at 10 a.m. with the Rev. G. T. Duke and Rev. David Pratt officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery, Winona Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Austin, the son of the late William and Lucretia McClure Austin, was born in Montgomery County and married the former Joe Hawkins who preceded him in death. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Claudine Cook and Mrs. Minnie Mae Sandidge, Winona, Mrs. Cora Lee Buchanan, Durant, and Mrs. Hulda Schmidt, North Hollywood, Calif.; two sons, C. E. Austin, Winona, and Manuel Austin, Greenwood, and a half-brother, Virgil Herring, Philadelphia; also, five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Floyd Austin, Vernon Austin, Guy Austin, Don Buchanan, Barksdale Garner and Hubert S. Hambrick.
