Born Dec. 12, 1800 in Virginia, Enos Leach was a son of John and Mary (Hall) Leach. The family moved to Bath County, Kentucky around 1802. Enos Leach married Elizabeth (Betsy) Gibson Montgomery on April 1, 1823 and settled in Morgan County, Kentucky. They moved to Hendricks County, Indiana in 1832 where, on Sept. 21, Enos purchased 200 acres of land from the U. S. government in what is now Union Township. Enos and Elizabeth were the parents of six daughters (Mary (Samuel Scott), Lucinda (Thomas Runnells), Sarah (George Leak), Matilda (John Keeney), Eliza (James Burnett) and Margaret) and one son, James Montgomery Leach.

The 1850 Census shows Enos Leach (age 49, born in Virginia) living in Middle Township (which then included present day Union Township), Hendricks County, Indiana with wife Elizabeth (age 44) and children Mary (age 26), Lucinda (age 24), Sarah (age 21), Matilda (age 19), James (age 16), Eliza J. (age 12) and Margaret (age 9). The 1860 Census shows Enos Leach (age 59) living in Union Township, Hendricks County, Indiana with wife Elizabeth G. (age 56) and children Lucinda and Margaret (age 18).
