Marilyn A. Evans 1943—2021
Marilyn A. Evans, age 77, of Freeport, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 15, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born in Freeport on September 3, 1943; the daughter of Anthony and Thelma (Yoder) Giuffre. She was a 1961 graduate of Aquin High School in Freeport. She went on to receive training to become an Accredited Medical Radiation Technologist. Marilyn was married to Elvin "Gene" Evans from June 5, 1971 until he passed away on July 29, 2020.
She worked at various Freeport hospitals and clinics as a Registered X-Ray Technologist. She had been a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and later attended St. Thomas of Aquinas Catholic Church, both of Freeport. Marilyn enjoyed gardening and flower arranging. She was a talented crafter, loved cross-stitch, painting and ceramics. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandkids and son, Guy.
She is survived by her son, Guy (Crystal) Evans of Orangeville, IL; grandchildren, Sarah Evans of Washington, IL, Rylee Evans of Orangeville, and Kerralyn of Orangeville; brothers, Anthony Giuffre, Jr. and Tom (Nancy) Giuffre of Freeport; sister, Jean (Willy) Alber of Freeport; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elvin; her parents; and sister, Nancy Jacoby.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 22nd from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Walker Mortuary in Freeport. A funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas of Aquinas Catholic Church in Freeport with Fr. Ken Anderson presiding. Interment will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Freeport. A memorial fund has been established for the Alzheimer's Association. Condolences may be shared at www.walkermortuary.com.
