James Bell, Sr.

Following a protracted illness caused by a heart condition, James Bell Sr., 73, a resident of Wishaw, Pa., near here, for the past 37 years, died at his home there at 4:45 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, January 10th, 1933.

Mr. Bell, who was one of this section's estimable residents, was born in Lanackshire, Scotland, September 23rd, 1859, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bell. He was reared to young manhood in the town of his birth and on December 29th, 1882, was united in marriage to Miss Marion Hutchison Nicol Hart, the wedding taking place at Dalserf, Scotland.

A short time after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Bell went to housekeeping at Lanarkshire and resided there until 1887, when, with their family, they came to America. Soon after their arrival in this country, they located in the Pittsburgh district, but a short time later, moved to Walston, near Punxsutawney. After spending a short time at Walston, they moved to Eleanora, where they resided until 1896, locating then in Wishaw, in which place they had since made their home.

Mr. Bell followed the mining industry practically all of his life, having learned the intricacies of the trade when a boy. He was an honest and industrious man and was highly respected by his associates. A lover of his family and home, a loyal neighbor and friend, his death has brought sorrow to all with whom he became acquainted during his many years' residence in this community.

Mr. Bell was a member of the Presbyterian Church, of Eleanora, the I.O.O.F. and the F.O.E. of Reynoldsville, at all times taking a keen and active interest in the affairs of the organizations, as well as in the civic and social affairs of the section in which he spent so many years of his life.

Surviving are the widow and the following sons and daughters: George Bell, of Reynoldsville; Jean B., wife of William Heffner, of Adrian; Margaret R., wife of Arthur Heffner, of Soldier; Mary B., wife of James Wilson of Floral Park, NJ, and James Bell Jr. formerly of New Jersey, but who during the past several months, had made his home with his parents in Wishaw.

Funeral services were held at the late home of the deceased in Wishaw, Friday afternoon, with the Rev. Rhodes, pastor of the Community Church of Adrian, officiating. Burial was made in the Odd Fellows Cemetery at Desire, with the services at the grave being conducted by members of the I.O.O.F. Lodge of Reynoldsville.
