John J. Houghland Dies of Injuries John J Houghland, 85-year-old retired coal miner of Tilden, died at
6:10 am Monday [18 Aug 1969] at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital, of injuries suffered in a traffic accident. Mr Houghland and his wife, Mattie, were hospitalized following the accident last June30 when the auto driven by Houghland struck a tree near DuQuoin. His wife is still a patient.
A native of Pinckneyville, Mr Houghland was a son of the late Cullen and Ella Houghland. He was a miner and mine boss in the Tilden area for many years.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Leo of Carbondale, Maurice of Las Vegas, Nev, and John of Beechmont, Ky; six gkids and six ggkids. Funeral at 2:30 pm Wed from the First Baptist Church at Tilden to the Mueller Hill Cemetery near Pinckneyville. Friends may call at the Lynn Funeral Home at Tilden after 4 pm Tuesday.
