Mrs. Felecia Hermans French was born in Maine to Judge Joshua Gould. She was the youngest of seven children: William, Henry, and Frank Gould, Mrs. Sarah Rice, Mrs. Caroline Rice and Mrs. Ann Lancy. She married Hayden W. French on 25 Nov 1859, and had four children:

* Charles Mortimer French 1864–1926
* Hayden W. French 1874–1912
* Abbie Marie French (Mrs. John McAboy) 1880–1953
She was the teacher in the first public school in Merced. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. R. Jones, in Porterville.
