PHILADELPHIA - James F. Delk Sr. went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012.
He was the only child of the late Decatur and Elva Delk. James was born in Smithfield, Va., on Jan. 9, 1926. At an early age, he left home and joined the U.S. Navy. After 20 years, he retired having reached his goal of attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
While stationed in Miami, Fla., he met and married the late Edith Smith and from that union there were four children. They are Carmen Alves (Ray) and Frances Bruce (John) of Hampton, Irene Bond (Lee) of Norfolk, and James F. Delk Jr. (Thelma) of Wichita Falls, Texas.
After years of living in Philadelphia, he met and married Hattie Mitchum and became stepfather to Roxanne, Antoinette and Robin.
He is survived by a host of grand and great-grandchildren
The family will be together in Philadelphia on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, to celebrate the life of a beloved husband, father, father figure and grandparent. Arrangements are under the care of Francis Funeral Home, 5201 Whitby Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19143.
