Emory Gordon McDowell, 84, of Doerun, passed away Monday, January 11, 2021 at Legacy Village at Park Regency.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, January 18, 2021 at Cobb Funeral Chapel with Dr. David Benton officiating. Interment, with military honors and masonic rite, will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Cobb Funeral Chapel. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are recommended.

Casketbearers will be Torey Wingate, Gettis Wingate, Ron Cook, Mike Blair, Jimmy Mashburn and Ken Tate.

Born April 15, 1936 in Cairo, GA, he was the son of the late Emory Gordon McDowell and Annie Belle Cone McDowell. Mr. McDowell was a United States Marines Master Sergeant Veteran and was a member of Doerun Baptist Church. He was a member of the Hasan Temple in Albany, the Doerun Masonic Lodge where he served as past Worshipful Master. Mr. McDowell loved his family, his church family and enjoyed golfing, fishing with his son and grandson. He especially enjoyed traveling with his late wife, Margaret Ann.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann McCarty McDowell; sisters, Margaret McDowell Schultz, Lois McDowell Cox, Willadean Sculley; brother, Horace McDowell.

Survivors include his son, Marvin Emory McDowell of Doerun; grandchildren, Marvin Andrew McDowell of Autreyville, Callie Ann Bell of Moultrie; great-grandchildren, Chloe Adams, Ellie Bell, Jake Bell and Max Bell; sisters, Shirley Best of Jamestown, TN, Carolyn Enfinger of Dothan AL; brother-in-law, Lamar McCarty and wife Joyce of Decatur TN.
