John I. Fulkerson was born in 1795 in Mercer County, Kentucky. He was the son of Philip and Elizabeth Bruner Fulkerson. He died in 1865 in Ohio County, KY. John Fulkerson was married in Muhlenberg County, KY., 11 June 1816 to Nancy, daughter of John Sanders and his wife Susannah /Wooten/ Graves. She was born in Muhlenberg County, sometime before her husband. In the year 1806 or 1807, John was taken by his parents to Ohio County, KY., where he spent the rest of his life. He was given land by his father in 1813, and at the same time bought several plots adjoining his father's old estate. In 1820, John and Polly, as his wife was sometimes called, were listed in the Charter of Pond Run Baptist Church near Echols, KY as Charter Members.
