Adolph McVoy

Adolph McVoy, 87, passed away on September 16, 2006 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. He was a life long resident of Rockdale. Rev. Craig Wills conducted the funeral service at First Christian Church in Rockdale with burial in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Pallbearers were Geff Gebhart, Jason Gebhart, Justin Bennett, Scott Frei, Bobby Pelzel, Tommy Neinaber, and Jody Pelzel.
Adolph was born on February 25, 1919 in Rockdale to Alfred Adolph, Sr. and Lula Mae (Alexander) McVoy. He and Hilda Gest were married on June 11, 1943 at Rockdale. He owned and operated McVoy Grocery & Feed Store in Rockdale from 1943 until his retirement in October of 1999. He was a member of First Christian Church in Rockdale, and received Elder Emeritus Award. He was a Board member of First Christian Church for many years. In 1936, he graduated from Rockdale High School. During World War II, he served in the US Army as an infantryman in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda, of Rockdale; daughters, Janice Pelzel and husband, Bobby of Rockdale, Lori McVoy also of Rockdale and Mary Jo Bennett of Conroe; grandchildren, Geff Gebhart, Jenny Frei and husband Scott, Jason Gebhart and wife Sunny, Hilary Bennett, Justin Bennett, Jody Pelzel and wife Kathy, Judy Pelzel and Kevin Pelzel; great grandchildren, Courtney Gebhart, Joshua Pelzel and Christa Pelzel.
Adolph was a lifelong cattle rancher and a Volunteer Fireman for over 25 years. He was a member of W.O.W. and of V.F.W. He was interviewed by Tumblewood Smith in 1999. He loved playing dominoes and participated in domino tournaments and never missed a domino game on Tuesday and Thursday nights. He was also a member of the Rockdale Historical Society.
