MRS. AMANDA POWELL
Mrs. Amanda Powell, 57, of Clifty township, wife of William Powell, passed away Friday morning at 4:30 o'clock at the county hospital, to which place she was taken Thursday for treatments for complications of diseases. Mrs. Powell has been ill for some time. The body was moved to the family home Friday morning. Funeral services held at the East Columbus Christian Church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Lee Jackson. Burial in Garland Brook Cemetery.
Mrs. Powell was born in this county and was the second daughter of George and Martha Goetz, pioneer settlers of Clifty township. She spent practically all her life in that neighborhood and was widely known there. She affiliated early in life with the Christian church at Newbern and as long as her health permitted was an active church worker. She was a highly esteemed woman and was regarded as an ideal wife and mother. In December, 1888, she was united in marriage to Mr. Powell. Besides her husband she is survived by a son, Ralph Powell, of Clifty township, a grandson and four sisters, Mrs. Andrew Powell, of Hope, Mrs. V. F. Forsythe, Mrs. Willard Gow, of Indianapolis, Mrs. Mitchell Crecelius, of Nashville, Tenn., and three brothers, Albert and Joseph Goetz, of Indianapolis, and Omer Goetz, of Seattle, Wash.
