Mr. William Mike Alderman age 83 died Friday morning at Satilla Care Center following an extended illness. He was a native of Bulloch County but had lived in Pierce County since 1965.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Jean Brown Alderman, his parents Dr. Hiram Alderman and Allie Akins Alderman, 2 brothers Lonnie and Earl Alderman and 2 sisters Maxie Sullivan and Susan Dunlap.

Mr. Alderman retired from the Glynn County Board of Education as a transportation supervisor. He taught school, coached basketball and baseball in Surrency and Odum. He was principal at Rincon Elementary, Bryan County High School, Grady St and Ware St. schools in Blackshear. Mr. Alderman served as Superintendent of the Pierce County School System for 4 years.

He was a former member of the Blackshear Rotary Club. He was a member for over 50 years of the Statesboro Masonic Lodge. He was inducted into the Wayne County Sports Hall of Fame in April of this year.

He was a graduate of the Georgia Teachers College (now Georgia Southern) and the George Peabody College of Nashville, Tn.

He was a veteran of WW2 serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater from Sidney, Australia to Tokyo, Japan.

Mr. Alderman was a longtime member of Emmanuel Baptist Church but in recent months had moved his membership to First Baptist Church of Blackshear.

He is survived by a special friend Margaret Robson of Blackshear, daughter Angie Dubose husband Thomas of Iron Mt., Michigan, son Michael "Bubba" Alderman wife Lynda of Evans, Ga., 2 grandsons Bucky Dubose wife Joanne of Haslett, Michigan, Benji Dubose wife Stacey Anne of Iron Mt., Michigan, a great granddaughter Lilah Dubose of Haslett, Michigan, sister Jean Feaster of Seattle, Washington, sister-in-law Naomi Alderman of Springfield, Ga., and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 11am Monday at First Baptist Church in Blackshear. Burial will be held at 3pm at Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8pm at Smith Funeral Home in Blackshear.
