Robert Glenn Sampson, age 89 of Foosland, IL passed away at 3:12 AM, Monday, November 23, 2020 at Good Samaritan Rehab and Healthcare in Pontiac, IL.

A graveside service in his honor will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, November 27, 2020 at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, IL. Pastor Gary Fairchild will officiate. All family and friends are welcome to attend. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home located at 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938 is in charge of services.

Robert was born December 6, 1930 to the late James M. and Irma Marie (Ellis) Sampson. He married Virginia Guylene Webb on November 10, 1950 in Mattoon, IL; she preceded him in death July 18, 2004.

He is survived by three sons, Robert Glenn Sampson, Jr. and wife Janet of Frankfort, IL, William Dale Sampson and wife Cynthia of Champaign, IL. Timothy Lee Sampson of Phoenix, AZ; two daughters, Brenda Kay Friend and husband Michael of Flanagan, IL, Lori Ann Sampson of Champaign, IL; one sister, Helen Johnson and husband Kenneth of Mattoon, IL; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, David Eugene Sampson of Rantoul, IL; one brother, James Sampson; and six sisters, Joan Weber of Mattoon, IL, Norma Torano of Key West FL, Marjorie Ryan of Arthur, IL, and Eileen Summers of Mt. Vernon, IL, Elflida Fleshner of Mattoon, IL, Rosalie Pierce of Charleston, IL.

Robert attended Bellflower United Methodist Church in Bellflower, IL. After many years of employment as a painter, he retired from Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul IL.

Driven by love, Robert was a hardworking man who was dedicated to providing a good life for his family. His commitment, and the joy of cheering for the Chicago Cubs, are a few of the things he will be lovingly remembered for.
