HANNAH, HERBERT "HERB" of Albertville, Alabama passed away at his home on March 28, 2007. He was eighty-five years old. Visitation will be at his home March 31, 2007 from four until seven in the evening at Adams Brown Funeral Home in Albertville. Services for Mr. Hannah will be Sunday, April 1, 2007 at First Baptist Church in Albertville beginning at two in the afternoon. Rev. Mike Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow at Marshall Memorial Gardens in Albertville.

Mr. Hannah was a member of First Baptist Church, Albertville, a Mason, Naval Aviator and Veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of Limestone High School in 1942 and the University of Alabama after completing his service during WWII. He was a graduate of The University of Alabama where he was a three year started on the football team from 1948-1950. He also played professionally for the New York Giants football team. He stayed involved in football coaching at the high school level in both Canton and Cedartown, Georgia before going into private business. He was the owner and founder of a wholesale distribution company of Agri-Business supplies known as "Hannah Supply Company" serving the entire Southeastern United States. He sold his company after thirty years of being honored and recognized as a leader and innovator.

Herb is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years, Rosa Geneva Watkins, Hannah, "Coupe", his father Allen H. Hannah, mother Nancy Rhody, a son James Ronald Hannah, three brothers, Thomas V.A., Eugene "Gene" and William Charles "Bill" Hannah, four sisters, Kathleen Hannah, Oma Hannah Moore, Genell Hannah Johnson and Peggy Hanna DeWitt, and one grandson, William "Bill" David Hannah II.

He is survived by his sons John and his wife, Elise, Charles and his wife, Tiffany, and David and his wife, Melanie. He had eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. His sister Opal Hannah Stewart of Indianapolis also survives Mr. Hannah.

Professional football player. After graduating in 1942 from West Limestone County High School in Salem, Alabama, he entered the service. During the war, he played service football for the Georgia Pre-flight Skycrackers in 1944 and was a naval aviator. After graduating from the University of Alabama, he was taken in the 6th round of the NFL draft by the New York Giants in 1951. He played in twelve games at offensive tackle for the Giants in 1951. He coached high school football before going into private business. He eventually bought the Alabama territory of a poultry company where he worked. He sold the company to his employees when he retired in the 1980s. One of his sons, John Hannah, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1991. He was introduced by his father, Herbert Hannah, at the induction ceremony.
