Jesse Ray “Popeye” Stamper, 89, of Winamac, IN passed away while surrounded by his family on Friday, October 22, 2020 at the residence of his son in Winamac, IN. He was born on August 13, 1931 in Crandon, WI to John and Esther (Wayberg) Stamper. Jesse was married to Marilyn M. McClellan on August 16, 1953 in Hoover, IN. Marilyn died on December 27, 2012.

Jesse was a heavy equipment operator and worked for Diamond Trucking in Francesville for 28 years. He also ran Stamper and Sons Construction for many years.

Jesse served in the US Army in Korea and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the VFW in Winamac.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing and hunting. Spending time with his family was the most important thing in his life.

Jesse was a member of the Winamac Church of the Nazerene.

Jesse was a great father, grandfather and friend to many.

He is survived by three sons; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.

Visitation will be from 10 AM to 2 PM on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, IN. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM. Burial will be in the Winamac Cemetery McKinley Addition. The VFW and American Legion will conduct military graveside services.
