John Jacob Baier, 73, a native of Germany, retired farmer and a well-known resident of Atlantic for the past 9 years, died at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon at his home, 604 W 6th St, as the result of a paralytic stroke which he suffered Friday afternoon. Mr Baier, the father of 11 children, all of whom are living, was born at Baden, Germany July 25, 1858 and came to the US in 1879 locating in Iowa county. Later he moved to a farm in Audubon county, where he lived for 37 years. He moved to California residing there several years before coming back to Atlantic in 1922.

Deceased was united in marriage to Miss Marie Ringlieb in Benton county in 1885, 11 children being born to this union. Mrs Baier died several years ago and on September 10, 1921, he was married to Pauline Maseman. The children are Albert of SD; John of Mount Ayr; Otto and Edward of Exira; Mrs Emma Brady and Mrs Ella Brady of Guthrie Center; Mrs Dorothy Johnson of Lake City; Mrs Marie Campbell of Ida Grove; Mrs Lena Burns and Mrs Harriet Miller of Audubon and Mrs Eleanor Farrell of Vinton. Funeral services were conducted by Rev Harvey Zuern, pastor of the Peace Evangelical church of Atlantic, assisted by Rev A G Whittier of the Exira Church of Christ. Interment was in the Exira cemetery.

Jacob married 2nd Pauline Vogel. She had married Frederick Maseman in 1897. Jacob and Pauline married 10 Sep 1921. Pauline was born 1868 in Germany and is buried in Rose Hills Memorial Cemetery in Whittier, CA in 1956.
