Vincent Story was the oldest child of James and Hannah Mary (Self) Story. He served in the War of 1812 as the fifer for the 1 Regiment (Napier's), West Tennessee Militia, in Capt. Andrew McCarty's Company. He was in the Battle of Horse Shoe Bend in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, 27 March 1814.
He was first married to Jane Ausman 29 July 1818 in Maury County, Tennessee. They had several children, including: a son born about 1820 whose name was William; John H., husband of Parthena Gunn; Bradley Franklin, who married Nancy E. McManus; Parrish Morgan, husband of Elizabeth C. Emmerson; and Mary M. wife of John R. Sink.
Jane died, and Vincent married Sarah Redmon 5 August 1845 in Morgan County, Illinois. They had one daughter, Sarah Jane, who married William Jasper Fanning. When her mother died, Vincent sent the child off to live with neighbors, George and Patience (Criswell) Nichols. I haven't found any other tie between the Storys and the Nichols family.
Sarah died and Vincent married Ava ("Avey") Arnold 2 December 1849 in Morgan County. They had a daughter, Rebecca, who was married to William F. Nevins. After Ava's death, Rebecca was raised by her father's sister, Nancy Story Whitlock, and after Nancy died by Nancy's husband Thomas Whitlock and his second wife Temperance Massa Whitlock.
Vincent next married Nancy Jane Birdsell on 17 September 1855, again in Morgan County. They had a daughter, Ava Louisa, who later married George N. Miller. After her mother's death, Louisa was raised by her mother's parents John and Elizabeth Birdsell.
Vincent's last wife was Elizabeth Sanders, who married him 16 September 1858 in nearby Greene County, Illinois. It's not clear what became of her, but in the 1870 Census there is a young woman named Mary living with Vincent, and her age is given as 18. That would make her too young to have married him in 1858 - she would have been only 6 years old!
No tombstones or death records have been found for any of Vincent's wives. He is buried alone in this cemetery, near his youngest brother Porter and his family. At least some of the wives may have been buried in the Mt. Zion West Cemetery where his parents were buried, which was bulldozed out of existence about the time of the end of World War II.
