She was a daughter of Charles and Jennie (Claypool) Brown. She married Arthur J. Carpenter on Aug. 7, 1939. He died May 20, 1971. She later married James C. Petersen on June 26, 1976. He survives.

Also surviving are daughters: Evelyn (Fred) Hogue of Marseilles, Marjorie (Bill) Pfaff of Morris, and Cathy (Tom) McDonald of Roswell, GA; sons: Ronald (Shirley) Carpenter of Streator, Jerry Carpenter and Daniel (Wanda) Carpenter, both of Marseilles; stepchildren: Carol Kirk, Joyce (Dan) Lanning, Judith Petersen and Janice Petersen, all of Streator; and Carl Petersen of Lakeland, FL; 16 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; sisters: Blanche Brackselyn of Somonauk, Dorothy Dudak of Streator, and Rosetta Baxter of Ottawa; and brothers: John Brown of Marseilles, and Robert Brown and Kenneth Brown, both of Ottawa.

She was preceded in death by sons: Joey and Johnnie; and two great-grandchildren.

She retired from The Sirloin House Restaurant and National Biscuit in Marseilles.

She was past president of the Streator Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was of the Methodist faith.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Hospice Program and St. Mary's Cancer Treatment Center.
