Richard T. “Dick” Cence, 92, Patton passed away September 10, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 18, 1927 in St. Boniface, the son of Leroy and Syvilla (Eckenrode) Cence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Betty Lou Cence, infant son Gary; brothers and sisters Margaret, Mary Magdalene, Bill, Georgia, Earl, Jim, June, Jean and Pat.

He is survived by children Rick (Amy) Cence, Carrolltown and Bill (Julie) Cence, Patton; grandchildren Brian (Brandy) Cence, Christopher (Sarah) Cence, Benjamin (Kristina) Cence and Katie (Eric) Vescovi; great grandchildren Emmi, Gavin, Ella, Eva, Ty and future great granddaughter Ellie in December; brothers and sisters Joyce (Tom) Dedea; Raymond Cence; Ed (Bonnie) Cence; Carol Ann Dotts; Leroy (Carol) Cence and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dick served in the U.S. Army. Formerly worked at Lacue’s Sunoco in Patton before retiring as a coalminer from Barnes and Tucker Coal Company. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton, lifetime member of Patton Fire Company and life member of the Patton Moose.

At Dick’s request, there will be no visitation. Funeral Mass 11:00 am Tuesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Patton. Full Military Rites will be accorded by John White VFW Post 779 and Walter McCoy American Legion Post 614. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Patton or Patton Fire Company. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., Patton.
