John Penner refused to mary Catherine so their son John H. Douglas kept his mother's maiden name, she had just turned fourteen years old when her son John was born

Penner, M.D. Louisville, 1854-1856; died at his home in Lawrenceville, Ill., November 2, from disease of the lungs, after an illness of three months, aged 75."

H. - Warren County, Kentucky Date: 13 August 2003 Submitted by Martha Lampkin, This obituary column, cut from newspapers of the time period, was found pasted in an ancient dust-covered book at a yard sale I attended in Louisville KY. I'm posting them verbatim in the hopes they will benefit others. I have no further information and have no connection to any of these names. I have no additional information on dates, or about which newspapers the original columns were in or the year of publication. DR. PENNER Former Citizen of This County, Dies At Lawrenceville, Ind. Information has been received here of the death of Dr. J. H. PENNER, which occurred last Friday at his home at Lawrenceville ILL. He formerly lived in this county and practiced medicine here but moved to Illinois, 43 years ago. Dr. PENNER was 70 years of age and celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of his marriage in October. His wife was Miss Mary CAMPBELL, daughter of the late John A. CAMPBELL, of this county. Dr. PENNER is survived by a wife and one son, J. H. PENNER, of Terre Haute, Ind. He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Julia SUMAN, of this city and a brother of Mrs. Geo. W. CAMPBELL and Calvin PENNER, of this county. He was for years one of the most prominent physicians of his section and one of this community's most substantial and highly respected citizens.


Due to a previous marriage Mary Campbell's name was Mary(e) Shields when she married John Penner.

He died on 9 Jan 1901 in Home of Martha Alford in Warren Co., Kentucky. Catherine DOUGLAS and Alford Alfred SMITH had the following children:

i. Jasper A. SMITH.
ii. William A. SMITH was born on 18 Jan 1873 in Home of Martha Alford in Warren Co., Kentucky. He died on 13 Jan 1889 in Home of Martha Alford in Warren Co., Kentucky.
iii. Sebron G. SMITH was born on 2 Apr 1876 in Home of Martha Alford in Warren Co., Kentucky. He died Drowning from and automobile accident on 3 Jan 1935 in Home of Martha Alford in Warren Co., Kentucky. He was buried on 4 Jan 1935 in Fairview Cemetery, Bowling Green, Ky. Cause of death, drowning in an automobile accident in the Barren River
iv. Charles E. SMITH was born on 27 Mar 1879 in Home of Martha Alford in Warren Co., Kentucky. He died in 1927.
