WILLIAM BUCHANAN DOUGLAS
Today the family graveyard and the ruins of the original house are located on the Miller farm in Riverside, which is now called Lost Creek Cemetery.

The farm that William B. Douglas lived on was purchased by his half-brother John B. Douglas in 1822 from Samuel Cherry. John was on his way to Warren County from his home in Botetourt County, VA to get married when John died in late 1822. This property stayed vacant until William's arrival in late 1847.

A will has never been found.

He was the first son of the 2nd marriage of John Douglas, Sr. to Catherine Sence.

The tombstones of William B. Douglas and Martha E. Douglas are greatly in need of repair, however they are still legible. The foundation of the original house is very visible. The graveyard is adjacent to the ruins on Lost Creek.

William B. Douglas was married to Catherine FULWILER (daughter of John FULWILER and Catherine BEEHER) on 14 Jun 1841 in Botetourt Co., Virginia.

William B. Douglas arrived in Warren County Kentucky without a wife but with four very small children in 1847.

Catherine FULWILER was born about 1823 to Botetourt Co. Virginia. She died after 22 May 1845 in Botetourt Co. Virginia. Catherine may have died in childbirth as the quick succession of births stopped in 1845 after the birth of Evaline.. Considering how quick the first four children were born and the fact that William B. had eleven more children with his second marriage.

William married Martha Elizabeth ALFORD (daughter of William ALFORD Jr. and Elizabeth PENNER) on 19 Apr 1847 in Riverside, Warren Co., Kentucky. ( The original marriage bond is on file at the manuscripts section at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. Copy on file.
Martha Elizabeth ALFORD was born on 1 Jun 1829 to Warren Co., Kentucky.( She died on 7 Dec 1901 in Riverside, Warren Co., Kentucky. She was buried on 11 Dec 1901 in Family cemetery on the Lost Creek farm, Riverside, Warren Co., Kentucky and was buried in Family Graveyard next to husband on Douglas Farm at Lost Creek Warren Co. KY

William Buchanan DOUGLAS was born on 4 Jan 1815 to Pattonsburg, Botetourt Co., Virginia. He was the first son of the second marriage of John Douglas Sr. to Catherine Sence.

He owned a Farm at Lost Creek which was purchased on 22 Jul 1822 in Warren Co., Kentucky and was part of his father's estate. (The Tax Rolls in 1848 in Warren Co., Kentucky. "W.B. Douglas, 1 voter, 140 acres on Lost Creek, (v-$210), 1 voter over 21, horses 2 (v-$50), cattle 1, no children 5-16 years old, total value $260" He Tax Rolls in 1849 in Warren Co., Kentucky. (249) "Wm Douglas, 130 acres Lost Creek, 1m over 21, 1 horse, 3 children from 5-16, total value $330" The Tax Rolls in 1850 in Warren Co., Kentucky.(249) "William Douglas 147 acres on Lost Creek, 1 over 21, 2 horses, 8 cattle, 4 children 5-16, total value $382"

William was was a member of the Christian Church from about 1850 in Virginia and Kentucky. He owned at Purgatory Creek, approximately 85 acres from his father's estate in 1857 in Botetourt Co. Virginia which was sold to John Zimmerman for $350, He also sold 200 acres to Thomas Cartmill, that was part of his inheritance from his father. He received more land on 28 May 1858 in Warren Co., Kentucky and is on the Tax Rolls in 1867 in Warren Co., Kentucky.
"Wm. B. Douglas, 270 acres (value $700) on Green River, 5 horses $300), 10 cattle ($60), total value $1060, 1 male over 21, 7 children 6-20, 40 hogs, 1500 lbs. tobacco, 1500 bu corn, 70 bu. wheat. He Tax Rolls in 1868 in Warren Co., Kentucky. "William B. Douglas, 170 acres ($600) and 172 acres ($400) Barren River, 3 horses ($150), 20 cattle ($100), total value $1250, 1 male over 21, 7 children 6-20, , 30 hogs, 700 bu corn, 30 bu. wheat." He Tax Rolls in 1869 in Warren Co., Kentucky "William B. Douglass, 180 acres ($500) and 198 acres ($300), Green River, 3 horses ($150), 10 cattle ($50), total value 1200, 1 male over 21, 5 children 6-20, 30 hogs, 2,000lbs. tobacco, 500 bu. corn, 50 bu. wheat."

William Buchanan Douglas was born on 4 January 1815 on his family's plantation near Pattonsburg, Botetourt County,Virginia. He was the first son of John B. and Catherine Sence Douglas. He grew up and received a private education on the family plantation . His father died when he was just fifteen years old, leaving William with a substantial inheritance.

He married Catherine Fulwiler on 14 June 1841 in Botetourt County, and they had four children: Catherine, John W., Gustanza and Evaline. In late 1846 William arrived in Warren County, Kentucky, with four small children but without a wife. Apparently Catherine died shortly before the move to Kentucky . On 19 April 1847 he married Martha Elizabeth Alford in Warren County. They set up housekeeping on a two-hundred-acre farm on Lost Creek, which had been purchased in 1822 by his father and was part of William's inherited estate. With his second wife, he had eleven children: James Thomas, Elizabeth Ann, Mary Jane, William Jr., Malvinia Frances, Jessee H., Julia, Virginia B., Steven Arnold, Martha and Hattie. Many descendants of these children still live in the Warren county area today. He continued farming and disposing of his property in Virginia until his death on 26 Oct 1887 at his home on Lost Creek. where he is buried in the family cemetery. He was a member of the Christian Church.

William bought out his siblings in 1857 and from then on he owned the Lost Creek Farm outright. Each sibling owned 20% for which he paid them $60.00 each. Shortly after that his brother, James J. Douglas, and his wife disappeared in Henderson county, Kentucky.
