E. Gwen Sommer, 66, of Idaho Falls, died February 3, 1997, at her home of cancer. She was under the care of Good Samaritan Hospice.
She was born October 13, 1930, at Archer, to Wesley Lavern and Thelma Lucille Carlson Grover. She grew up in Archer and attended schools there and in Rexburg. She graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg.
On April 29, 1954, she married Dale F. Sommer at Rexburg. She was a homemaker and mother of three boys. Having been employed by Mountain Bell Telephone Co. and J.C. Penney Co., she retired from C-A-L Ranch stores as a saleslady.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Her hobbies included fishing, camping, crocheting, walking and exercising.
She enjoyed time spent with all of her family, including her two grandchildren, Ben and Sherry Sommer.
Survivors include her husband, Dale, of Idaho Falls; sons, Bret Dale Sommer and Mike Dee (wife, Tina) Sommer, both of Idaho Falls, and Kirk Vern (wife, Kathie) Sommer of Elko, Nev.; three sisters, Thelma Irene Fikstad of Ammon, Doris Delain Larson of Idaho Falls, and Zenda Ileen (husband, Ray) Sharp of Sugar City; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Nina Tereese Dumont; and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Idaho Falls LDS Mountain View Ward, 1450 Mountain View Lane, with Bishop Michael G. McKellar officiating. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 N. Ridge Ave. in Idaho Falls; and Thursday for one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in the Archer-Sutton Cemetery.
