Elmo is the second child of Homer Barnes and Lola Redden. He was born in Sweetwater and grew up around Texas. He served in the Army as an SP4 during Korea. Perhaps unlucky in love, Elmo married and divorced three times. His first wife, Carol Sue Nelson, gave him two children. He next married Muriel Evelyn King and they had a son named Russell Gene Barnes. Finally, he married Edwina Pittman on New Year’s Eve 1988 and they divorced in July 1991. He continued to live in Comanche County for six more years before passing.
