Lloyd Menning was born on August 10, 1916 to Simon and Minnie (DeVries) Menning in Douglas Co., near Corsica, SD. He attended country school and then Corsica High School until quitting school to help his parents on the farm. Lloyd married Bernice Plooster on June 11, 1943 in Corsica, SD. He farmed for a few years until starting Menning Implement, which he owned and operated for many years. He then owned and operated Lloyd's TV and Appliance for several years until retiring in 1978. Lloyd served as the mayor of Corsica, on the Corsica School Board, St. Benedict Hospital Board, National Bank of South Dakota Board and also as a church deacon and elder. Lloyd died on Tuesday, January 31, 1995 at his home in Corsica at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 21 days.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Bernice, Corsica; 2 sons: Dr. Larry and wife, Pamela, Chamberlain; Wayne and wife, Carol, Mitchell; 1 daughter, Faye Stryzewski and husband, Scott, Chamberlain; 5 grandchildren: Chad and wife, Amie of Bloomington, Indiana, Trent and Leah Menning and Sarah and Aaron Stryzewski; 2 brothers: Clarence and wife Elizabeth; Everett and wife, Gertrude; 5 sisters: Jennie Lightenberg, Viola Goemaat, Pearl Brink and husband, Ray, Grace Groen and husband, Lyle and Lucille Noteboom and husband , Peter J. and 1 sister-in-law, Irene Menning all of Corsica.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Art.
