She was born in Fayette, a daughter of John and Mammie (Schultz) Schmidt. She attended local schools.
On Feb. 16, 1946, she married Clinton "Smitty" Smith in Fayette, where they made their home and she worked as a loving homemaker to her family.
She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning and cooking.
She is survived by three sons, Calvin Smith of Livermore Falls, Eric Smith, and his wife, Roxanne, of Wilton and Kenneth "Ken" Smith, and his wife, Suzanne, of Fayette; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Smitty on Nov. 5, 1989; and a daughter, Debra on July 5, 2002.

SMITH - Mary, 88, of Fayette, died at Farmington, Monday, Sept. 3. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 308 Franklin Road, Route 133, Jay.
