Joe M. Collins dies suddenly

Joe Marlow Collins of Winona passed away Friday, June 17, at the Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:15 p.m. in Lee Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cornell Daughtry officiating. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Collins was born Dec. 31, 1897. He was a member of the Southside Baptist Tabernacle.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nettie Chandler Collins of Winona, two sons; S/Sgt. Joe Nevel Collins of Orlando A.F. Base, Florida, and James Lamar Collins of Winona; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Burney of Crystal Springs; also three brothers, Lattie (Doc) Collins, Grenada, Lay Collins and Nick Collins, Winona; two sisters; Mrs. Lottie Hays and Mrs. Susie Richards, Paducah, Ky., and 11 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Scott Rodgers, Stacy Chandler, Walter Shaw, Pete Kirk, Albert Sellers, and James Latham.

Joe, his first wife, Bessie Blaylock Collins Caddess, and his second wife, Nettie, are buried at the Oakwood Cemetery, Montgomery Co., MS.

Joe and Bessie had 3 children, as follows:

1. JOE NEVEL COLLINS, b. November 12, 1919, Winona, Montgomery County, Mississippi; d. March 21, 1987, Lake Cormorant, Mississippi.

2. JAMES LAMAR COLLINS, b. May 10, 1923, d. May 10, 2012 in Jackson, MS.

3. MARY ELIZABETH COLLINS.

Joe Marlow and second wife, Nettie Chandler, had no children. Joe Marlow worked for the Montgomery County, MS Roads Department. He was 68y, 5m, 17 days old at his death.
