Mrs. Opel A. Garthwaite, 74, resident of Court Tower, died Friday at 10:45 p.m. at Mercy Medical Center. She had been seriously ill seven weeks.

She was born in Oasis, Wis., on Sept. 5, 1901, daughter of Harvey and Mary Irish, and was married in Almond on Feb. 22, 1921, to Lloyd C. Garthwaite, who preceded her in death on Aug. 12, 1948.

Mrs. Garthwaite. was a member of First United Methodist Church, Women of the Church, and former member of Athena Club, Twentieth Century Club and Charity Circle.
Surviving are one son, Edward C. Garthwaite, Oshkosh; one daughter, Mrs. David A. (Kathryn) Davidson, Manteno, Ill, one brother, John Irish, in Arizona, and five grandchildren.

Services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Konrad Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Verduin, visitation pastor at First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 p.m. until the hour of services.
